Choral Pilgrimage 2012 directed by Harry Christophers.
After 32 years of worldwide performance and recording, The Sixteen, is recognised as one of the world’s greatest ensembles.
Comprising both choir and period-instrument orchestra, The Sixteen’s total commitment to the music it performs is its greatest distinction. With a special reputation for performing early English polyphony, masterpieces of the Renaissance, bringing fresh insights into Baroque and early Classical music and a diversity of 20th-century music, drawn from the passions of conductor and founder Harry Christophers.
Featuring arguably the three most celebrated composers from the Franco-Flemish school of the Renaissance, this programme is centred around movements from the staggering 10-part Missa Et ecce terrae motus by Brumel (the 'Earthquake Mass').
After Josquin, Brumel is considered one of the greatest composers of his generation. Lassus, writing some 30 years later, was clearly influenced by both composers and he is known to have performed as a singer in the Brumel mass.
