Spielberg's War Horse Film Released 13 January
Steven Spielberg's epic film War Horse was released in UK cinemas on 13 January. Why not celebrate with a visit to Devon where parts of the film are set!
Spielberg spent several weeks on Dartmoor while making the film last year and was full of praise for the location, saying 'I have never before, in my long and eclectic career, been gifted with such an abundance of natural beauty as I experienced filming War Horse on Dartmoor.'
War Horse is adapted from a novel by Michael Morpurgo, telling the story of a young farm boy who signs up for military service during World War I in order to find his horse, Joey, after the animal is sold to the army and sent to France.
Haytor, Combestone Tor, Venford Reservoir, Meavy and Sheepstor are among the locations used for filming - see the map below for locations. Visit our Dartmoor page to find out more about visiting the National Park, or visit the Dartmoor website.
