Watersports
Whether you want a peaceful paddle on the river or to experience the thrill of extreme water sports, the Heart of Devon has plenty to offer.
With nearly 40 miles/64km of coastline in the Heart of Devon, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy life on the water, from leisurely boat trips to high adrenalin kite surfing or water skiing.
Stuart Line Cruises operate boat trips throughout the year, with trips along the World Heritage Jurassic Coast from Exmouth and Sidmouth in summer and bird watching trips along the Exe Estuary in winter. Mackerel fishing trips operate from the coastal towns of Branscombe and Beer, where you can also hire your own boat. Canoes can be hired from Exeter Quayside, to take a gentle paddle exploring the canal, with two waterside pubs en route!
Head to Exmouth to take part in high adrenalin water sports, such as kite surfing, water skiing and wake boarding, or learn to sail or windsurf on the River Exe at Exeter. If you're feeling adventurous, diving centres at Exmouth and Teignmouth offer the opportunity for visitors of all diving abilities to explore hidden underwater worlds, from shallow reefs to deep wreck dives.
More relaxing pursuits such as fishing are also popular in the Heart of Devon, or head to one of the area's beautiful beaches for a paddle in the sea! Why not try the original form of surfing on a traditional wooden board from the Original Surfboard Company - historically known as 'surf riding'.
