Gardens

There are historic houses whose acres of estate have been carefully tended for many years and are filled with rare and wonderful plants and trees, such as the National Trust properties of Killerton and Knightshayes Court.

Castle Drogo has the highest National Trust garden in the country at over 900 feet, overlooking the dramatic Teign Gorge, or visit Escot Gardens in Ottery St Mary for woodland paths and trails through gardens laid out in the 18th century and set against a backdrop of 220 acres of 'Capability Brown' parkland.

Tucked away in the centre of Exeter are some hidden gems - scenic gardens offering a sanctuary of calm within this bustling city. Pinces Gardens and Northernhay Gardens have outstanding historic significance - Northernhay Gardens are the oldest public gardens in England, whilst Exeter's valley parks provide a haven for wild birds and flowers. Some of the Heart of Devon's attractions feature some wonderful gardens to explore, such as Pecorama in Beer, home to the Peco Millenium Garden.
