Dog Friendly

The Heart of Devon's wide open spaces and long stretches of coastline make it the perfect destination for a dog friendly holiday!  

Dog friendly beaches include Shelly Beach in Exmouth, River Beach in Teignmouth and Ness Cove in Shaldon, where dogs are welcome all year round. Dogs are welcome on all of the Heart of Devon's beaches between 1 October - 30 April and in restricted areas outside of this period.

There are many dog friendly hotels in the Heart of Devon, including several who welcome dogs free of charge, such as Combe House Devon and the Two Bridges Hotel! Some hotels such as the Ilsington Hotel on Dartmoor also offer information packs for owners with dog friendly places to go and dog chews!

There are also plenty of dog-friendly B&Bs and dog friendly holiday cottages and campsites in Devon, many situated on farms where your pet will have plenty of space to run free and meet other animals!

Many of Devon's visitor attractions welcome dogs on leads, including Crealy, Escot, the Donkey Sanctuary, Canonteign Falls and you can even take your furry friend on a boat trip with Stuart Line Cruises or tram ride with Seaton Tramway! Dogs are welcome to run free at Yearlstone Vineyard and Tiverton Canal, and Treasure Trails are a perfect activity for a family day out including your dog!


The Heart of Devon has plenty of wide open space for your dog to enjoy. Fantastic Devon dog walks where dogs can run freely without the worry of traffic include the well-marked trails at Haldon Forest Park, the easily accessible flat paths beside the Tiverton Canal, the East Devon Commons, and the many miles of open wilderness at Dartmoor National Park.  

There are also plenty of nature reserves, valley parks and walking routes for you and your dog to enjoy, such as the South West Coast Path and East Devon Way, which links up footpaths, bridleways and stretches of country lanes.
