Beaches

Miles of stunning and diverse coastline edge the Heart of Devon, and the warm climate and beautiful beaches have attracted visitors for centuries.

There are sandy beaches at Exmouth, Dawlish Warren and Teignmouth where you can relax and enjoy the sunshine, build a sandcastle and try a delicious ice-cream made with Devonshire cream! You can also join a trip around the bay with Stuart Line Cruises from Exmouth, to admire the stunning scenery of the East Devon coast.

The beaches at Beer, Branscombe, Budleigh Salterton, Seaton and Sidmouth along the East Devon coast are recognisable by their unique pebbles, which are legally protected. You can enjoy wonderful, safe swimming in the sparkling sea and some of the beaches offer a variety of watersports.

Exmouth is the start of the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast, which stretches along the East Devon and Dorset coastline. The unique geology of this coastline records 185 million years of the Earth's history and is stunningly beautiful. There are visitor centres at the main towns along this coast telling the fascinating story of the Jurassic Coast's geology, and you can discover the rocks for yourself by joining a guided fossil hunting walk.

Several beaches in the Heart of Devon have won awards for the high quality of their facilites, safety and water. Visit our award winning beaches page to find out more.
