A City Day Out

9.30am. Start your day with breakfast at No. 21 Cathedral Yard, an award winning cafe in a stunning setting overlooking the magnificent cathedral. Red Coat Guided Tours

10.30am. After breakfast, join a Red Coat Guided Walking Tour to discover more about the history of Exeter, one of the oldest cities in Britain.

12noon. Spend some time browsing the shops in Exeter's Princesshay, or head to the Castle Quarter or West Quarter for independent shopping. Before lunch, take the opportunity to visit Exeter Cathedral, one of England's most beautiful medieval cathedrals.

1pm. Stop for lunch at one of the cafes in the Cathedral Yard, such as Michael Caines Cafe Bar, or Hansons. If you fancy a pub lunch, head to the Fat Pig for a daily changing menu of local produce.

Exeter's Underground Passages2.30pm. After lunch, visit Exeter's Underground Passages for a unique experience - these passages under the city's streets are dark, narrow and fascinating! Before your guided tour of the passages, you can have the chance to explore the Passages' heritage centre, with interactive exhibits and a short film about the history of the Passages.

Exeter's Historic Quayside
3.30pm. Take a walk down to Exeter's Historic Quayside. If the weather is nice, stop for a coffee at one of the cafes with tables outside overlooking the river. If you are feeling active, you can hire a bicycle or canoe from Saddles & Paddles, and explore Exeter's canal and towpath routes. You may also like to spend some time visiting the independent craft and antique dealers, with stores located in historic bonded warehouses.

5pm. Visit one of the pubs on the Historic Quayside to end your day with a chilled glass of wine or refreshing beer, while relaxing beside the river. Michael Caines Restaurant

6pm. If you feel like staying for dinner, why not try some locally produced food in a friendly environment at @ Angela's, a family run restaurant located on New Bridge Street, near the Quayside. For fine dining in fabulous surroundings, eat at Michael Caines Restaurant in the Cathedral Yard.
