Exeter's Quayside is one of the most attractive areas of the city. Its history dates back to the Roman times, and there is still evidence of Exeter's wealthy maritime past in the fascinating architecture. Cloth produced in the local area was finished at Cricklepit Mill, and the Custom House was built in 1680 to house the officials who collected taxes on traded goods.

Boating on the River ExeIn the summer months, the Quayside is a hub of activity, with an extensive programme of events including Dragon Boat racing! There are regular boat trips operated by Exeter Cruises, or cross the river on Butts Ferry, one of only five floating bridges in the country! You can also hire canoes and pedalos from the Quayside.
