Steeped in history this 16thC house has been welcoming guests since the Benedictine monks who traded in salt stayed here. Ideally located for visiting from Lyme Regis, Dartmoor and beyond, we welcome walkers and cyclists who enjoy their own extra facilities. Situated on Sidmouth's doorstep it is a short level walk along the Byes National Trust walk from the town.
The rooms are unrivalled in quality with many throughful extras and touches all round. All rooms have beverage trays with chilled bottled water and homemade biscuits, there are luxury robes and toileteries, magazines, sweets and DVD library for guests to use. Some rooms are on the ground floor and have their own access to the garden. Recognising the quality of the Salty Monk, The AA and VisitBritain have awarded 5 stars with a Gold Award and the restaurant has 2 AA Rosettes and a breakfast award.
The elegant restaurant, which is light and airy, has fantastic views of the gardens, for which they were awarded a Silver Gilt award in the Sidmouth in Bloom competition winning best in category. In the summer you can dine alfresco in the courtyard patio or enjoy an aperitif in the garden.
Andy & Annette's passion for food is reflected in not only the quality of the ingredients that they use, but that they enjoy making all the extras that make dinner a memorable experience. The house menu changes daily and has plenty to choose from with fresh fish, meat and of course vegetarian options. Naturally, as all the food is made by chef/proprietors, dietary requirements are not a problem here and dining out for those who struggle ordering from a menu, are delighted to be able to order confidently.
