Over 2,000 years of history is displayed in the many heritage attractions in Exeter. Visit Exeter Cathedral to see the longest stretch of unbroken gothic vaulting in the world, or explore beneath the city's streets at Exeter's Underground Passages, the only attraction of their kind open to the public in Britain! Free guided tours exploring Exeter's modern and historic heritage run daily with the Red Coat Guides. The Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery re-opened on 15 December 2011, with stunning displays and prestigious loans and exhibitions from national partners.
Just 10 miles from Exeter is the start of the Jurassic Coast, desig
nated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its geology stretching back over 250 million years. This unique landscape includes striking features such as the startling rich red and burnt orange Triassic rock of Exmouth's cliffs, unique quartzite pebbles at Budleigh Salterton and the dramatic red rock stacks at Ladram Bay. The Jurassic Coast Earth Festival (4 May - 9 September 2012) brings together an exciting 4 month programme of events, activities and exhibitions across the 95 mile Jurassic coastline. Visit Haldon Forest Park just south of Exeter to enjoy walking and cycling trails, with fantastic views across the city.
The Heart of Devon hosts a packed calendar of events throughout the year, including exhibtions, live music and craft festivals, theatre and family events.
Banish the winter blues at Exeter's Laugh Out Loud Comedy Festival, from 19 January - 12 February 2012, or enjoy animated films from all over the world at the Animated Exeter festival, from 11 - 19 February at venues across the city. The Vibraphonic music festival returns to Exeter from 9 - 24 March.
